How To Spend An Awesome 2 Days In Milan alone

I don’t know about you, but I love traveling alone, especially to Italy!

“I used to have an appetite for life; I am going to Italy,” says Julia Roberts in the movie “Eat, Pray, Love.” That’s how I feel at that moment.

The point is to get out there and enjoy some sun, pasta, and good Italian wine.

Your life is worth living, and I hope my post can motivate you to do just that!

In October 2023, I did my solo trip to Milan and to my absolutely favourite place in Italy, the magnificent and colorful Cinque Terre!

Check how to see the 4 villages in 2 days.

How long to stay in Milan

It was perfect for me to stay 2 days in Milan.

I went to the most well-known places, went shopping, and tried the best Aperol Spritz. All in just 2 days.

If you plan it right, you can see most of Milan’s best sights in one or two days. While my time in Milan was enjoyable, I would suggest spending a day at Lake Como if you have the chance, for instance.

You can book a day trip to Lake Como here.

After spending two days in Milan, I made my way south to Cinque Terre, Italy’s most charming and colorful region, for another three days.

In a separate guide, I talk about the best things to do in Cinque Terre.

Where to stay for 2 Days in Milan

Milan can be pricey, but I managed to find a great Airbnb for two nights near the Arco della Pace and Parco Sempione. You will get to the city center after going through the whole park. The park is fantastic, full of little squirrels. I went for a long walk there first thing in the morning on my way to the Duomo.

Additionally, there are numerous dining options in the vicinity of my Airbnb. For advice on where to stay, I asked my Italian friend from Milan. I was traveling alone; therefore, I booked a place that was quiet and conveniently located near the city center.

You can stay at these other places in Milan.

Where to eat in Milan

Dinner

Essential for each Italian vacation is pizza Margharita. One of the best dishes in the world!

I had the most delicious Margharita, a glass of red wine, and Tiramisu at Mani in Pasta.

For dinner, I had Mama Eat‘s fantastic gluten-free Pasta Carbonara and a glass of white wine because I could not wait to try my second favourite pasta the following day.

Breakfast

My recommendation for breakfast is the authentic Italian combination of brioche and coffee.

At the cafe Van Bol & Feste, I started my day with some yummy pistachio brioche and coffee. Its location is near the city center, just after you exit the Parco Sempione.

Lunch and gelato

For lunch, I decided to try some delectable seafood pasta and a dry white wine at a restaurant I discovered. Coco Pazzo is the name of the spot, and it is practically in the middle of town.

Absolutely, no trip to Milan is complete without indulging in some amazing gelato. For example, here are a few of the best places to get your gelato fix:

5 best things to do during 2 days in Milan

1. Marvel at the Duomo di Milano

Start your Milan adventure at the iconic Duomo di Milano. This stunning Gothic cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete, and it’s a masterpiece you can’t miss. Climb up to the rooftop terrace for panoramic views of the city—it’s like stepping into a fairytale with all the intricate spires and statues!

2. Explore the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

Secondly, stroll over to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, right next to the Duomo. This 19th-century arcade is one of the world’s oldest shopping malls and a real architectural gem. Under its beautiful glass dome, you’ll find luxury boutiques, charming cafes, and the famous Prada store.

Most importantly, don’t forget to spin on the bull mosaic for good luck!

3. Try the original Aperol Spritz

You simply can’t go to Milan without trying the world’s most recognizable Italian cocktail, right next to Duomo!

As an aperitif—a drink served before dinner that is typically lighter in alcohol and intended to whet the appetite—the Aperol Spritz is dry, bitter, and cleanses the palate.

In other words, it is often described as an Italian sunset in glass.

I love the taste and the color.

The drink is a little pricey (I paid 15 euros for it), but how often do you get the chance to drink something so incredible in the heart of Milan?

II Bar in Piazza Duomo is where I enjoyed this drink. To go there, simply enter the shopping mall Rianscente Milano, Food Hall. Take the elevator to the 7th floor, and there you will find a balcony with the best view.

4. Visit The Last Supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie

One of the most incredible art experiences in Milan is seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper. It’s housed in the refectory of the Santa Maria delle Grazie church. Standing in front of this iconic painting is truly awe-inspiring.

You will not be able to purchase the tickets simply by walking in from the street.

Make sure to book your tickets well in advance because this masterpiece attracts visitors from all over the globe.

You can book the tickets here.

5. Relax at Sempione Park and Visit Sforza Castle

While enjoying your walk through Sempione Park, don’t forget to visit the Sforza Castle, located at the entrance to the park, walking from the city centre. At the very end, you can enjoy the Arco della Pace. The grand Sforza Castle houses several museums and art collections. It’s a lovely spot to soak up some history and enjoy the serene surroundings.

Wow, what an incredible 2 days in Milan!

From the breathtaking beauty of the Duomo to the luxury vibes at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, every moment is a feast for the senses. Seeing The Last Supper up close is beyond amazing, and wandering through the city feels like stepping into a charming Italian movie. Relaxing at Sempione Park and exploring the grand Sforza Castle is the perfect way to wrap up your visit. And, of course, indulging in Milan’s best gelato is a must.

In conclusion, Milan is a magical mix of history, art, fashion, and delicious food, leaving you with unforgettable memories and a longing to return.
